MANUSCRIPT CRITIQUE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Critique submissions must be emailed to the correct email address based on the type of critique and in accordance with the guidelines.
MANUSCRIPT PACKAGE SPECIFICATIONS
The name on your manuscript must match the name used to register for the conference. No pen names, please.
Submit (1) One Microsoft Word document containing:
1. The author’s name, title, and page number on each page.
2. A brief cover letter (a half page or less) addressed to selected critique faculty with a synopsis.
For picture book manuscripts, no synopsis is required. The synopsis does not count against the manuscript page count.
3a. For Regular Virtual Critiques & E-Critiques:
Include the first ten (10) pages of a manuscript formatted using standard formatting rules. Any manuscript pages over the ten (10) page limit will not be critiqued.
3b. For Extended Virtual Critiques & E-Critiques:
The first twenty-five (25) pages of a manuscript formatted using standard formatting rules. Any manuscript pages over the twenty-five (25) page limit will not be critiqued.
4. Naming Conventions:
Name the Word file “YourLastName.YourFirstName.Title.docx”
5. Email manuscript package to the appropriate email address:
Email Virtual Zoom Critiques (regular and extended critiques) to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Subject Line: “2020 In-person Critique for CritiqueFacultyLastName by YourLastName YourFirstName”
Example: “2020 In-person Critique for Blume by Smith John”
Authors wishing to have manuscripts considered for the Joan Lowery Nixon Award, should state in the email body: “Please consider my manuscript for the Joan Lowery Nixon Award”.
Email E-Critiques to: email@example.com
Subject Line: “2020 E-Critique for CritiqueFacultyLastName by YourLastName YourFirstName”
Example: “2020 E-Critique for Blume by Smith John”
E-Critique manuscripts are not eligible for the Joan Lowery Nixon Award.
Picture Books: Picture book manuscripts may not include illustrations and must be limited to ten (10) pages.
Novels (chapter books, middle grade and young adult): Submit a one-page single-spaced synopsis and the first ten (10) pages of your manuscript, even if it cuts off mid-chapter.
Be sure to format your manuscript using standard formatting rules .
Please note: cover letters and synopses will not be critiqued. They exist only to give the critique faculty a better idea of the story.
Failure to comply with the guidelines or to provide a manuscript within the stated deadline may preclude an Attendee from receiving a critique. No refunds shall be provided. Critique appointments will be assigned and missed appointments can not be made up or refunded.
The deadline to submit your manuscripts via email is before midnight, Wednesday, August 26, 2020. For questions, email the Conference Critique Coordinator.
