JOAN LOWERY NIXON AWARD
The Joan Lowery Nixon Memorial Award was established to honor a writer who so generously shared her time and talents with our members. For many years, Joan selected and mentored a pre-published author whose manuscript was considered by critique faculty to be nearest to publication. This year, the winner of the Joan Lowery Nixon Award will receive one year of mentorship by one of the following authors: Houston’s own Joy Preble will mentor a middle grade or young adult author and Kelly Bennett will mentor a picture book author.
When submitting your manuscript for critique, please request consideration for this award in the body of your email. If you do not make the request, you will not be considered.
All faculty critiquing manuscripts on Saturday can nominate the manuscript they believe to be closest to publication.
The mentors will select the winning manuscript, which will be announced in the weeks following the conference.
This award is limited to pre-published and unagented authors.
In order to be considered for the award, you must be registered for an in-person Zoom critique during the 2020 Houston SCBWI Conference. E-critique registrations are not eligible.
Your manuscript must be formatted correctly as detailed in the Manuscript Critique Submission Guidelines.
