Silent Auctions and Door Prizes

Back by popular demand is SCBWI-Houston's Fabulous Silent Auction. Items include free SCBWI conference registrations, autographed books, and much more. Use cash or checks to pay for the items you win in auction. All proceeds go to the Houston SCBWI scholarship fund. Door prizes will be given out to attendees throughout the day.

Items up for bid are one-of-a-kind art pieces as well as original illustrations and prints.  All of the proceeds from the Silent Art Auction go to future SCBWI illustrator events. Payment must be in the form of cash or check. Contact Carmela Simmons if you like to donate an original illustration or print. It does not have to be connected to the conference theme, or children's literature, but keep in mind those pieces that do have a connection to the industry, childhood, or pop culture tend to sell well.

Will you Create for the Auction?

We invite everyone to participate in decorating and modifying an art piece for the art auction. This is a creative endeavor, not just for SCBWI members or proclaimed artists. To participate, simply mark your participation on your conference registration. You will need to pick up your art object from the Illustrator Coordinator by the September SCBWI Houston meeting. This will allow you plenty of time to modify the piece at your leisure. The deadline for completion is October 7th. An email will be sent to participants requesting a short bio as well as a description of the piece. Please return this information by October 1, 2017 to allow time for formatting to display at the conference. You will check your item in following registration at the conference. If you have any questions, email Illustrator Coordinator, Diandra Mae at

Blue Willow Bookstore: How to Sell Books at the Conference.

Blue Willow Bookstore will again set up our conference bookstore on October 7, 2017. The bookstore will include books by and recommended by our faculty, as well as some of our member books. Any visiting or local faculty members who are providing critiques may have multiple books sold.
The deadline to register for our conference bookstore is September 1. If you are an author or illustrator who plans to sell books at our conference bookstore, please download the NEW forms from Blue Willow Bookshop below.
