Silent Auctions and Door Prizes

Back by popular demand is SCBWI-Houston’s Fabulous Silent Auction. Items include free SCBWI conference registrations, autographed books, and much more. Use cash or checks to pay for the items you win in the auction. All proceeds go to the Houston SCBWI scholarship fund. Door prizes will be given out to attendees throughout the day.

Once again we are having the Silent Art Auction! Items up for bid are one-of-a-kind art pieces as well as original illustrations and prints. These decorative items will have a children’s literature theme and are embellished by illustrators and even a few authors. All of the proceeds from the Silent Art Auction go to future SCBWI illustrator events. Payment must be in the form of cash or check.

Would you Like to Sell your Books at the Conference Bookstore?

We are fortunate to have our bookstore handled by Blue Willow Bookshop. If you wish to have your book/s available for sale at our conference, you must go through Blue Willow.

This year, SCBWI has handed down new guidelines for conference bookstores. To be in line with these new rules, all authors (except faculty) attending our fall conference, whether traditionally published or self-published, may display and sell ONE title. All member titles will be displayed together without regard to whether they are traditionally published or self-published. Faculty may display multiple titles, which will be on a separate tables/tables from member titles.

All book sales for the conference must go through our conference bookstore host, Blue Willow Bookshop. If you would like to have your book included in our conference bookstore, please contact me, Vonna Carter, at *vonnacarter@gmail.com and indicate whether your book is traditionally or self-published so we can send you the correct forms for Blue Willow Bookshop.

For more information, please view these documents:

Please email the completed, signed documents to: Alice Maloy

The deadline to send your information to Blue Willow Bookshop is September 8.

If you have questions about the process, please contact our bookstore coordinator Vonna Carter.

WILL YOU CREATE FOR THE AUCTION?

We invite everyone to participate in decorating and modifying an art piece. This is a creative endeavor, not just for SCBWI members or proclaimed artists. To participate, simply purchase the medium of your choice and go wild. We welcome original art pieces in any form or format: wood-carving, wood-burning, decoupage, sculpture, art prints, paintings, decorative keepsake boxes, whatever form works for you. Be as creative as you wish, the only requirement is that you consider the theme for our conference is derived from The Wizard of Oz: Journey. And keep in mind people will need to transport the item home, so mobility and size need to be considered.

Simply mark on the registration whether or not you plan on donating to the Silent Art Auction. Bring your item to the conference Saturday, October 22nd. You will check your item in following registration. If you have any questions, email Illustrator Coordinator, Diandra Mae at houston-ic@scbwi.org.
